The Princess & The Frog - A Critique

So if you haven't heard by now, Disney will be releasing its first ever animated film with a Black princess. Much has already been said and done in response to this news, I even posted about it a few months back. But today, I came across a wonderfully written critical analysis of the film on one of my favorite sites, Racialicious. So if you're interested, go on over an take a peek.

It is kinda long but definitely worth the read.
So be on the lookout for these interesting sections in the article:

"Some may claim that it would be historically accurate for a 1920’s black woman to be a maid, but Disney doesn’t even care about historical accuracy when animating actual history."

"What’s especially unfair about those who condemn blacks who criticize
The Princess and the Frog is that whites, as a race, are not condemned as ungrateful or otherwise for critiquing the numerous white Disney princesses (or society at large.)"

"My most serious concern, however, is the way voodoo religion is treated in the film.
" - This is one of my favorite sections in the article because I studied how African religions changed as a result of slavery (think also about Santeria)

So what do you all think? Do you plan to go see this film?
