Sister With Sexy Locks

Hello all,
Currently, I am residing in Sunny Southern California and I would love to meet up with any Loc Sisters near the SFV area. My Loc Anniversary is 8/9 and I have been enjoying the journey thus far. I am also looking forward to swinging my sexy long locks as I do my other love, Bellydance!!
I am excited to join this exchange especially since I stayed up endless nights browsing it before I had my very own Sisterlocks installed. I have been natural for over 6 years and I decided to go natural because I was tired of trying to force my kinks to lay down. It just wasn’t happening and I hated feeling self-conscious about looking like I needed a new perm when I just had it done only 2 weeks prior. I am so happy I made the decision to go natural knowing what I know now about relaxers.
Well with my hair natural, especially now having Sisterlocks, I can no longer be self-conscious because all I feel is free. Free to let my beautiful kinks be and even though this can sound cliché, I truly feel free to be ME!!

MzMotiv8on Has Arrived!

Hello All! I am Roneshia from the lovely Detroit, MI. I have always been a fan of locks but was too afraid to get them. Afraid Of what people will think of me or how I would be accepted. That all changed the summer of 2008 at a friends party when a young girl entered the room with the most beautiful head of locks I have ever seen on a person. As I interrogated her she informed me that they were sisterlocks and suggested that I stop perming my hair. I did and I haven't looked back since. So here I am a year later. My beautiful sisterlocks were installed on 8-25-2009 and I will never forget it. Come follow me on my motiv8on for true beauty. Much love and God Bless.

Loc'd and Loving It!

Hi all!
I started my locs and maintained them myself. No professional or anyone to really guide me. Therefore, I have learned a lot! I get a lot of compliments on my hair and talk to people until I'm out of breath about how to upkeep their locs. Well, there are times where I felt I was missing something or left out a few details. It didn't dawn on me until now (July 2009) to write a blog. So here I am… To write about something that I am passionate about: my lovely locs. December 2009 marks the three years on my journey!

TJ's Sisterlock Journey

I have been documenting my hair journey since my BC in October 2007. I began my loc journey with 5 ½ inches of natural hair. My locs were born over the course of 2 days and 21 hours February 2009. I’m in the middle of three generations of Sisterlockers! It was because of the journeys of others that I have been able to make informed decisions regarding my hair. I pray that I can be of assistance to someone else seeking liberation from being held hostage by their hair.

Peruse, comment and enjoy. TJ's Fotki

Mai no longer has MicroBraidlocs now I have Sisterlocks!

After being natural for eight years I was completely bored and slightly discouraged about my hair...then surfing the net one day I found the perfect solution....sisterlocks! A quote from a fellow microbraidloced blogger "I am not OVER my hair yet. Two years later and I am a little more content but definitely NOT over it!" coupled with some major loc problems urged me to take the plunge over to sisterlocks after being 3 months microbraidloced.
My new sisterlocks anniversary is November 17, 2008!
Feel free to drop by and leave a message or helpful hint! Enjoy!

Docs Locs

[update August 12, 2010]
Hey y'all,
I haven't updated here on the exchange since just after my install in '08, so I thought I would post one of the recent videos from my blog.

Be encouraged,
DL

[original post]

Hello everyone.

I've been sisterlocked since February 3, 2008 and I'm lovin' it.

Thank you, Maryee, for this blog exchange. Each blogger is part of a wonderful support system for sisters who may be flirting with the idea of getting locs.

After 10 years of wearing my hair natural, I fell off the wagon a few years ago, but I am happy to be in back in recovery.

When I went natural the first time, locs were not a consideration. Locs didn't even cross my mind. But this go round, it didn't take me much time to realize that locs are for me.

I am being watched, as are many of us! At work and by friends and acquaintances, many who are natural, but bored with their hair. Many who are considering weave or a press and curl, just to change it up a bit...But now they are watching, waiting and hopeful!

Nappy Blessings

Hello All,

My hair has always been an extension of my life. I had my first set of locs for ten years. I started them all wrong, product wise. But they were the longest my hair has ever been.

Now I have had a sort of rebirth and my hair has joined me. I started my second set of locks 12/31/07.

At this moment they are a mixture of latched, coils, and braids. I love them more everyday. The more I leave them alone, the happier they are.

I look forward to comments and suggestions. And I am always willing to offer my support and "what-not-to-do wisdom."

So, check out my NappyBlessings Blog or join me on Myspace and NappyStar.

Peace & NappyBlessings

This is dreadslocs - RIP

Greetings all,

First I would like to thank Dreadlocs for his love for his freeform locs.

Secondly, he was a proud member of the community of folk who carry dreads/locs.

His own journey started 5/15/05. His journey carried him far from his initial vision of where his locs grew to. His initial vision and plan was to have the "perfect" set of manicured locs. And to that end,  he almost drove himself crazy. :-) His first 6 months was spent twisting obsessively, one braidloc session and one latch session at a time.

When he found himself waking in the middle of the night twisting he was forced to pray for relief. His answer came in the form of advice given to him by folk he referred to as his freeform mentors, Tai of this forum being one of them.  Dreadlocs journey was one of "letting go." He washed and condition/moisturized with all natural products whenever he wished. He often went for months at a time without what some referred to as "poppin his dreads" and loved the freedom he was gifted with!  It was quite a feeling to believe his Creators vision of his hair was much more profound than his own...

peace an blessins, Dreadslocs... Your fotki loc family will always remember you for your wonderful photo sketches, encouraging comments in our photo albums and sharing your journey with hundreds of us in the community.  May you continually rest in peace.
