Jhavia Nicole...Natural Haired Beauty

I knew that it would lead to this. What I mean is: I knew that locs were the destination in my natural hair journey. I stopped perming my hair in 2004, and I have not looked back since. But, it wasn't all great from there. From 2004 until summer 2009 I wore my hair in twists, braids, sew ins, wigs...I wasn't perming my hair, but I wasn't rocking it either. Summer 2009 I decided it was time for some changes. No more braids...I wore my hair OUT. In the past, the only time I wore my hair loose was in between styles, but after reading a few natural hair blogs I decided to quit the weave cold turkey. I have had good and bad hair days, but I am fortunate that I am truly getting to know MY hair.

I am loving this locking process! I know I haven't posted in a while...I have been really busy. I wanted to take a minute to tell you ladies and gentlemen what is going on with my hair. I must say that I love it! It is really fitting into my lifestyle. I will admit that there are times when I am not so pleased with my baby locs. But now I am more carefree. I don't stress over it, and I really just let my hair do its thing.

I will style my hair occasionally, but for the rest of the month I am not going to style it at all. I am going to focus on keeping it moisturized and let it be.

I will keep you posted on my hair. Check out my youtube channel for my update videos.

Nat's Locking Journey

Hello everyone
and thank you Maryee for inviting me to join LHBE. My locs are traditional and were started with two strand twists which I maintain with an interlocking tool I made. My locing anniversary is Mar/01/2009 and have been natural now for about 5 years. Since I was lurking and looking at some wonderful blogs for so long I decided to take the plunge and start a blog of my own. Hoping that I will learn more from my fellow lockers and possibly share something new with you. Check out my blog @ http://naturigurls-locjourney.blogspot.com/ Come share your thoughts and ideas with me.
Yours in this journey together

Tosh's Twisted and Dreaded Journey

I started my natural hair journey in the summer of 2000. It was then I made the decision to stop relaxing, and start accepting myself for who I am. I was in hair school, and after studying the effects of chemicals on the hair I knew that my decision was a good one. I rocked different hairstyles then, braids, afro, press & comb. Still, I knew I wanted to go the loc way deep down inside therefore, I eventually went loc'd permanently in 2001. I haven't looked back since. In the pictures you can see my journey and how far I have come. Its been eventful, but nothing compliments me better or makes me feel as free as having loc'd hair. What an oxymoron huh? Well its not...the term dreadlocks came from individuals who decided the hairstyle is dreadful. But by looking at all of the beautiful people rocking locs now you can see there is nothing dreadful about it. At my natural haircare blog...On the Road to Queendom I will update on products, natural haircare, and beauty all together. Visit me so we can take the journey together!

Starting Out

Greetings!! My name is PureHappyness. I've read so many of your posts and looked at your loc timelines and I am in complete awe! A dear friend (also loc'd) started my babies on 12-23-07 (henceforth known as my locversary) with coils. I am so excited about embarking into this cultivation of both self and locs. I never thought I'd be here, but here I am. I have a lot to learn and hopefully as much to share. Please stop by my fotki and view my pictures and let me know your thoughts. Sending locs of love all around!!

Fee's Loc Journey

Hello, all! My name is Felisha and have been on this lock journey since Jan 28 2007. Prior to having locs I wore my hair in afros, twa's, brush cuts, puffs, twists, braids, press n curls, you name it I did it. After 3 years of abuse to my natural hair, I decided to embark on yet another journey; locs. I started my locs via coils and have enjoyed my journey thus far.  LocOn!!!

Grace and Peace,

Locked and Living Free!

Hello Everyone, My name is Shawna a.k.a. Cocoanaps. I feel so blessed to be included in such an inspirational group of people. When I first discovered the LHBE I would visit it multiple times a day for information, ideas, and encouragement. Since then I have started Sisterlocks 2-8-07, rocked them for 6 months, and as of 7-29-07 decided to convert back to Traditional Locks my "First Love". Locking really is a journey of Self Discovery and it helps to have a few good guides along the way. Thank God and Maryee for the LHBE. Please visit my Blog http://www.gettinglocdandglad.blogspot.com/ Read, enjoy, leave a comment or two if you please. Be Blessed! Cocoanaps:)

Locked since 11-2-06 & still counting!

hey!!! i'm part of so many different groups, i told myself i wouldn't join any more (only bcz i would start to forget passwords and such). but i've seen this L.H.B.E all over the place, i couldn't resist. i want to get in contact with other naturals and loc'ers & plus, this community is ever growing & i want to be a part of every minute of it.

i have three accounts (links at the bottom) that ch
ronicle my journey with locks, started on 11/02/2006. my first intention was to get sisterlocks, but due to the money issue & the fact that micro locks weren't for me, i opted for traditional locks. although i did go to the salon to get them started (with two strand twist), i maintain them myself mostly with the latchhook, and i periodically treat myself to the salon for a fresh palm roll. they are all different sizes & lengths & I love every minute of it (being natural in general) & at no time can i EVER see myself rockin a perm again in my life. i am a 19 year old girl and just like mentioned in her blog, i hope that i can be an inspiration to any other young black women to not let society judge them or label them & to not be afraid to step out & be different.

ok i'm tired of typing now, so please, just stop by my spot & show me love!

My transition from traditional locks to Sisterlocks

Hi Everyone,

I must say it is wonderful reading all the Sisterlocks® material. I'm getting my hair re-tightened, and I'm looking forward to the results. I didn't realize how time consuming blogging can be until I noticed that I was at my computer for hours and it didn't phase me. If only it was that easy when I was studying for a test. :0) I got excited looking at all the styles that I will eventually be able to put my hair in, once it grows. Right now it's really short, but it's growing quickly and I like the manageability of it because it is extremely low maintenance. Okay, I'm going to end for now. Stop by my blog when you get a chance and take a look at my journey. To all my brothers and sisters the SL movement continues!!!!!!!!! http://reelgirl77.blogspot.com/

A Year in Hair-RastagalNJ

I am ending the year with a collage of my loc styles of 2006...Have a Healthy, Happy, Prosperous New Year.

Grace and Peace to you my fellow sojourners in locdom. I am so happy to be welcomed into the Locked Hair Blog Exchange. My loc journey began almost 10 years ago, it was an instant attraction but a slow acceptance of what was the inevitable. I am loving every day of being locked and can't imagine why I took so long to make the transition. Share with me as I chronicle my journey into the kingdom of natural hair as well as the story of how I became "The Jamerican Loc Diva known as rastagalNJ. Click on the title to read my story and you can visit my online photo albums at http://public.fotki.com/rastagalNJ

Blessings

***Update-6-20-07*** I have been locked for almost 11 years now, I started my locs from comb coils that a friend did and have not looked back since. I maintain my locs by washing when I feel the need (sometimes weekly, sometimes longer stretches LOL), and when I do twist, I only finger twist the roots with a mix of honey, olive oil and aloe vera gel. Lately I have been letting them do their own thing, so I haven't retwisted in a few months. I also have stopped using products on my locs except some oil every now and then. My locs seem to be happier without all the stuff I use to put in them.

Lizrouse- Loc'ed and loving it!

Hi everyone!

I loved what I've been reading from all the folks on their hair journeys. I've been loc'ed since 2001. I finally rid myself of the last of my relaxed hair probably 8-10 years ago (I'm not sure anymore). Just wanted to comment and express my appreciation. Wish there had been more of this when I was making the journey by myself. Thanks best wishes to all those hair-journeying.

Visit Haitian_Hunny's Lock Journey

I celebrated my one year lociversary in January of 2007 and I'm still in love with this journey! I have and continue to learn more and more about myself and my hair. The locking process has been the catalyst to change different aspects of my life and live healthier in general. I have been organizing monthly 'Nappy Gatherings' in the MD/DC/VA area for almost a year now as a means to bring natural and transitioning sisters together for support, encouragement, knowledge, and friendship. I have met some of the most beautiful and positive women through this venture.
I look forward to what is yet to come with my natural hair journey. I still see changes in my hair although it's mature and it gets more and more beautiful. I encourage anyone that's considering locking their hair to go ahead and take the plunge. You won't regret it, I promise (smile)!
Inspirations and continued blessings,

With these my locs, I be wed

Loc Statement By Dreadlocdcutie:

I used to see people with locs and go, "man those look icky" or " man that is too much hair and I just KNOW its hot in the summer." For years, I have often asked myself what I would do with my hair if i ever got tired of wearing braids and perms and weaves. I started to see more and more people with locs and they looked beautiful, healthy, clean, and well maintained. I grew tired of holding my arms above my very thick mane of hair applying microbraid after microbraid to my already thick mane of hair. I got tired of the chemicals and then came the biggest shock..... my gyn doctor said I had to have a hysterectomy at age 28 and here I am only now 29. Yes, I have children so that was no worry but of course this was gonna bring about a change in my life and so i decided to do a complete reinvention of me inside and out. Before surgery I got the courage to go to the barber shop and have him cut all the perm off my hair and leave me with my nature texture no matter what the remaining length was. I ended up with a teeny weeny afro (TWA we call it in NY, lol) I had surgery and I received so many compliments about my short naturalism and I grew to love me even more. I got my comb coils installed on Aug 6th 2005 and only went back to learn how to wash and retwist and what to use and not use. After month 1 I have been maintaining it myself. I love to color my hair and that is my disease, lol (color in loc disease) but I have learned that over the 9 months of watching my locs change, I love them so much and the funny thing is I have had alot of people ask if I have Sisterlocks because of the shape, size and texture of my locs. I take that question as a compliment to Sisterlocks, freedom of naturalism, and freedom of spirituality. I have learned to love and adjust to my locs much like my life. Thru my loc journey I am now pleased to say that my two daughters Angelica age 12 has decided to have locs so I started her jouney with braidlocz, and my 11 yr old daughter Miya, has asked me to cut the relaxer off her ends and do traditional locs and palm roll like mine. She has been loc'd for two months thus far. So, with this my locs, I be wed the journey of love, life and spirituality and marriage to my beautiful locs.

Please visit Dreadlocdcutie's photo blog.

I wanted to also share my daughter Miya's loc journey with you. Please click here to see her progress!
