Self-absorbed

A barrage of disgusting self indulgent camwhoring pictures because I said so.

From when I did my reebonz advertorial's photoshoot. Great eye make up that day ;)

These two taken by my Lx3 with its flash.
The rest taken by L10 with ring light:

BAM!

Captured Curls of the Week: Angel

Everyone...
meet ANGEL!
A beautiful natural sharing her story on going natural.

Tell me about YOU
My name is Angel, and I am proud to be natural! Throughout my whole life, (prior to my big chop), my hair has been super long and thick. (I have pics to prove!) lol. I was always recognized as the "pretty girl" but deep down inside I had the lowest self esteem. It wasn't until I decided to go natural that my confidence boosted tremendously.
During my seventh grade year of school, I went to a salon that my mother had seen Black women walking out with their hair swinging. The gentlemen asked me did I want a "Revlon or Motions" relaxer and I picked a Revlon relaxed because I associated it with a white woman. After my hair was finished and styled, my hair was swinging like no other. My hair had been cut into layers and I thought I was the stuff. Many compliments I received, but a couple days later I discoverd my head was covered in hard scabs. The relaxer had burnt my scalp! My hair started getting bald spots and the dermatologist diagnosed me with alapecia. That's a lot for any 12 year old to go through. Thank God I had enough hair to hide it.
Later on my mom made me wear braids to help my hair grow back, and it took a total of four years for it to get completely back to normal. Later on in my sophmore year of highschool I got a relaxer, and sparingly touched them up until my junior year when I decided to go natural. I went back and forth, but I decided on May 7, 2009 that that would be the last relaxer I would get. Thank God it was!

Tell me your hair care regimen (do you use heat, natural products, ect...)
I have tried so many different products, but as of now, I only use Creme of Nature Lemongrass & Rosemary Leave-in and Shea Moisture Curl milk and smoothie. I co wash my hair about 3 times a week, apply my leave in throughout then use a quarter sized amount of curl milk and smoothie for my whole head, and do a cold water rinse then seal with the leave in. I don't shingle, and I don't use gel. I want my hair to be as natural as possible, and I was beginning to depend on gel to get a certain texture, but now I'm done! I want my wash n go's to be just that!
Tell me your texture and what works best on your hair type
My hair texture is fine and thick. My hair type varies throughout my head. (3a-3c, maybe small bits of 4a)

5. Tell me the reaction you got when first going natural
Everyone was shocked because I did it on Wed November 11, 2009 and didn't tell anyone I was doing it! My family made me feel horrible, and the comments that I heard were AWFUL! I still hear comments to this day. Now most people love it on me, and I have been fortunate to inspire so many women. Most of all, my boyfriend (later on husband) loves it, and he appreciates my beauty.

Did you BC or transition, if so when or for how long?
I transitioned for 6 months then I BC.

What makes you love your kinks, curls and coils?
The fact that they are mine and that God trusted me with them. I didn't know my hair could be so beautiful. So many women ask me on a daily basis "How do you get your hair to curl?" "Do they rod your hair?" and everytime I say "It's natural" either they don't believe that's possible, or they say I have good hair and I'm lucky. I correct them, and it saddens me because I wonder if I would have thought the same thing if I kept being brainwashed. I love my natural, and my future babies will love their natural too!

Where can we find you on the web?
You can find me on facebook. My name is "Angel Lyriq Peters" and I have a natural hair page on facebook called "Natural Nirvana" I also am on naturalsunshine.ning.com under "Angel Peters"

Anything EXTRA you want us to know?

I just want all you ladies to be encouraged and LOVE YOUR HAIR! Don't love someone else's and not appreciate your own. Love your's! It is beautiful. God doesn't make any mistakes, and he made none creating your hair!

I will be trying "Wonder Curl Products"

Hey Beauties,

Anyways,
I have been hearing great things about a curl defining jelly called

I contacted the owner of the company asking if I could
sample her products for a blog review.
She said yes and she is GENOURSLY
sending me a 8 oz jar of the jelly and a 4 oz of her "Get Slick Hair Smoothie".

BAD Hair Day... :-(

So today "Coco Puff" (my hair's name) decided
she was not going to cooperate with me today.
For whatever reason, she had a attitude.
I tried everything.
Shingling, Finger combing and even I ever tried a shake- and-go
(which is her fave)
and "coco puff" still would work with me.
I'm not happy.
My curls look limp and dull.
I am officially having a bad hair day.
I think "coco ouff" might be pissed with me
because of these cold water washes I have been giving her.
LOL.
Hopefully, she gets used to them because they are here to STAY.

Making (Curly) Memories!

This is a great idea for anybody out there in need of some inspiration. So often in the media we see images that only validate one or a few types of beauty. Although the industry is changing, it is easy to get caught up in the allure of a beauty unlike your own. Is this to say that straight hair or a certain other body type is bad? No! Of course not. It is ALL good.

So, I found this idea on plantfolk.wordpress.com/ and wanted to share with all of you. I especially like it for moms and dads to do with their kids as a fun project. Imagine sitting down with your little ones finding beautiful images of people who look like you! Or, if you are a newly natural woman or man out there needing some positive images of natural beauty, this could be an idea book where you store inspirational pics of varying hair styles.

If you're in to scrap-booking, you could even add words or your own texts, backgrounds, etc. Of course, the images above are just one example of how your could do this and the images could be of anything, not just hair.

It looks like all you need are:
~ A 3-ring binder
~ Scissors
~Colorful background paper
~Glossy magazine pics or images from the web
~Glue

So there you have it! A simple, fun way to embrace natural beauty. Have fun!

Follow up: Deep conditioner follow up

After I rinsed out the Deep Conditioner that I whipped up
my hair was so soft!
I rinsed with cold water and I can honestly say that I did feel a difference
in the way my hair felt.
that I found on KimmayTube's youtube page.
I twisted my hair with it and it felt and looked great once I was done.
I plan on doing a twist out in the A.M.
(I will DEF post pics and give my opinion on how it worked for me.)
I took a few pics of my twists- see photos below:
(FYI: they are not perfect. Just a style to sleep in while my hair air dries)

A Great Deep Conditioner for the SUMMER!

Lately I have been co-washing and DC'ing a lot!
My hair gets really dry in the summer months
and
in D.C. the past week it's been HOT, HUMID and
not good for my hair.

So today I whipped up a little concoction
to share with you all.
The ingredients are below, along with pics.

Ingredients:
*Shea Moisture's Deep Treatment Mask
*Virgin Coconut Oil
*Jasmine's Butter Cream Rinse (or Oyin's Honey Hemp Condish)
*Vatika Oil
*1 Egg

1.  Melt down 2 tablespoon's of coconut oil and add a 4 drops of Vatika Oil

2. Add your Shea Moisture Deep Treatment and Cream Rinse
to the melted oil and crack your egg into it as well.

(My 2 year old wanted to help me make the DC, LOL :-)

3. Mix WELL. The mixture should look like
cake batter.

4. Wash hair before applying the DC

5. Rinse shampoo out COMPLETELY!

6. Then apply the mixture to your entire head.
Once applied comb thru with a denman or wide tooth comb.
Then cover with shower cap for 15-30 mins

I still have the DC in my hair as I blog.
LOL
I will come back with an update before the night is over.
If you decide to try this, let me know what you think.
I plan on rinsing with cold water.
So we will see how that goes!

Be back soon...
